Create your own scarf with Margaret Wilmot
Margaret is a Corowa fibre artist who has been exploring the possibilities of wool combined with other fibres for over thirty years.
She graduated with a Diploma of Education majoring in Sculpture and Jewellery but on moving to Corowa discovered the joys of working with wool.
She completed a Certificate of Weaving and a Certificate of Textile Colour and Design. Margaret is a member of Victorian Feltmakers Inc and continues studying with international and Australian masters of textiles.
Felting has been one of her techniques for many years, but as it was considered by many to be hard and heavy she has experimented with new ideas and discovered the softness and lightness of cobweb, gossamer and nuno felting.
Working with Merino wool, silk, flax, mohair, cashmere and alpaca fibre combined with fabrics of silk, wool, viscose and metallic thread, she has created unique and individual shawls, wraps, coats, jackets and scarves that are warm, strong and very light to wear.
Her creations are worn in Australia, UK, US, Canada, France, Italy, Japan, Hong Kong, Switzerland and South Africa.
In 2008, Margaret was one of the founding members of Gallery 294, Corowa Arts Co-operative, a gallery that continues to showcase and sell the high quality arts and craft created by regional artists. She regularly conducts felting and dyeing workshops at the Gallery, regional TAFE colleges and continuing education venues.
